In to Galicia

Today (Wednesday) a late start, wheels rolling at 10.40 by the time we broke camp in Valle de Seo (13 euros per night each ), an odd little place, had the feel of Fawlty Towers, the same girl kept popping up to check us in, show us to our pitch and then wait our table for both evening meal and breakfast (toast with cherry preserve I know my Mrs would die for). The campsite had a real run-down unfinished air about it, typical maƱana Spain I guess, but very friendly nonetheless.

Our route took us through Montfort de Lemos past  the giant  monastery  on the hill, then in to Galicia (region) toward Ourense. The road twisted and turned long sweeping bends climbing high on to a plateau, a real change in scenery, farmland, what looked like olive groves and corn crops .The buildings were more rustic rundown stone wall construction.

Eventually we turned into Ourense, and tried to find the old quarter but couldn't quite pick up some signs to the Bishops Palace, so pulled over ins bike park to discuss ( 28 degrees in biker gear and a city centre is a struggle). Luckily, a young local man saw us, asked us where we were heading, and advised us where to park our bikes, he even lead us on foot to a bike park in shade of his apartment block, and then directed us to the old town on foot. He told us he was a biker too, and had Lindsay show him on the map where we had come from. Really good guy. After Tapas in a cafe we found the old quarter, and the Bishops palace etc....

After Ourense we headed toward Pontevedra, and the coast near O grove after a long twisty decent from the Plateau skirting around and through the city following an estuary out to the coast road.

Eventually arriving at our next campsite after 7pm, right in a peninsula, above the beach. A room with a view all for 15 euro a night fantastic!. Much smarter than the last one with hot showers. Here's the pitch ....

Te owner directed us to a cafe up the road, where were served pork loins and home made fried chips and salad dressed with sherry vinegar and olive oil. A couple of Cerveza ( beer) and a brew on the camp stove before bed. 180 miles. Tomorrow we head to Santiago de Compastela.
