Travelling west along the Camino

Up early this morning ( tue) to cook those chorizo like sausages that took an age. Very spicy they were too along with beans (Heinz of course) and a few rashers of bacon. Lindsay did a sterling job on those Huevos (eggs). We left Potes around 10 am for the ride I had been looking forward to for ages - the road down to Riano then on to Leon. Climbing the Picos good and proper now, this is a road built for motorcycles ...

On to Leon heading down via Bonar with the huge plains and mountain range ahead of us and later opening out to the Great Plains.

Here you see stork nests in church belfrys , I believe considered good luck by the locals.

Later we stopped at Astorga the Roman walled village.

The cathedral

Grabbed an ice cream and then rolled on to Ponferrada, where we ordered Tapas Patatas bravas a potato dish in spicy tomato sauce - Lindsay's favourite, really good.

Castle at Ponferrada

During our travels we kept seeing hikers on the Camino, heading toward Santiago - the pilgrims route the way of st James, amazing they can walk that distance in that heat.

Finally after a bit of confusion we found the camp site Valle de Seo

An unusual but friendly place who make their own wine, and offer local produce as a set menu of four courses. Here's me just about to start on the Trout

Followed by an evening stroll by the river

More tomorrow the mozzys are biting !

Total miles today: 202
